Foods to help burn fat & improve digestion

Remember the old saying:  You are what you eat. And if you eat a lot of fatty foods, guess what? You’ll put on the pounds… by eating the wrong fats. But if you add the following 11 foods to your diet right now, 2018 will shape up to be a much slimmer year.

What makes those specific fruits and veggies the best?

Researchers say it’s their extremely high fiber content that can help you feel full for longer and improve your digestion.

In addition, those foods have a lower glycemic load. This means they won’t cause your blood sugar to spike as much as other foods.

Add in their low calorie content, and it’s easy to see why that list can put you on the right track to burning stubborn fat.

7 Ways to Make No-Bake Energy Bites

Today, we’re diving deep into the world of energy bites, everyone’s favorite meal prep snack recipe!

Energy bites are a great healthier treat, packed with protein thanks to a nut butter base, chia seeds and ground flax. They are sweet enough that you feel like you just had a treat, and filling enough to keep you going when you’re on empty.

Not only that but they are so convenient to grab on your way out the door.

Swaps in this no bake energy bite recipe:

  • honey and maple syrup are interchangeable
  • natural nut butters are interchangeable, however non-natural nut butters are not recommended for this recipe (they don’t set properly and are overly sweet)
  • if you don’t have coconut oil, try an extra tablespoon of nut butter
  • if you can’t find ground flax, add 2 extra tablespoons of rolled oats

Storing your no-bake energy bites:

  • Short term: Store in a sealed container in the fridge.  Your energy bites are good for a week or so.
  • Long term: Store in plastic bags in the freezer.  Freeze on a cookie sheet for one hour before transferring to a ziplock plastic bag in the freezer.  *Remove as much air as possible before sealing the bag*
  • To thaw: place in the fridge overnight

Picky Eater Solutions

For picky eating toddlers, mealtime can be a struggle. This simple toddler lunch solution is an fun and easy way to get your eating well. Mom win!

Tasting trays…baby bento boxes…nibble trays. Whatever you want to call them, they are simply awesome. And easy.

Here’s what you do: take an ice cube tray and fill it with a bunch of different finger foods. Watch as your child eats more that you’ve seen in weeks. Seriously. Kids pretty much empty their trays almost every time.

I love that it’s a great way to make sure we get all the food groups, use up leftovers in the fridge, and introduce the boys to new foods in small (less scary) portions. Here are the foods I put in one of our trays last week:
